Welcome to week 8 (The Last Week!!) of digital learning this school year!
First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. We are working on finishing our bridge project this week. It usually takes about 4 hours to build so make sure you plan accordingly. Get a good place in the house to be able to spread out and build away. Don’t forget your parameters like 1” above the plane of abutment and others. If you are ready for wood, let me know. You need to have your orthographic drawing, parts list, building procedures, and tools list done, then I will deliver to you. If you have questions or need a consult call or email me. If you make a mistake and need more wood, please let me know as well. When you are done, I will come to your house and pick up your bridge. I will test it on video and send the video to you. You will need to fill out the test sheet and return everything digitally to me. As of right now I have 3 students with Balsa wood. If you are ready for wood, please let me know as soon as possible. Welcome to week 7 of digital learning!
First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. We are working on our bridge project this week again. It usually takes about 4 hours to build once it is fully designed so the goal is for it to be fully designed this week. You have 4 things you are producing this week. As soon as you get done, I will deliver your Balsa Wood. First – Converting your sketch into an orthographic drawing. Choose one of your sketches to prototype. Watch the guided PowerPoint “From Sketch to Orthographic Drawing” for help with this step then make sure you have a good 1:1 drawing of your sketch. We are only prototyping one bridge. Second – Create your Parts List. Watch the guided PowerPoint “Parts List, Building Procedures, and Tools Tips” for help with this step then create your Parts List. Third – Create your Building Procedures. Watch the guided PowerPoint “Parts List, Building Procedures, and Tools Tips” for help with this step then create your Building Procedures. Fourth – Create your Tools List. Watch the guided PowerPoint “Parts List, Building Procedures, and Tools Tips” for help with this step then create your Tools List. To reiterate, this week you should complete:
Make sure that you upload pictures of these items and let me know when you get done so I can deliver Balsa Wood to you. Coach Well . . . No one signed up last week? If you would like the work please reach out to me via email or text.

First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. We are working on our bridge project this week. The long-term plan for this project is for me to deliver Balsa Wood to you, you would need to provide your own glue (I recommend Super Glue) and cutting utensils. Once you have it built, I will come pick this up from your mailbox or front porch and test via video so that you can watch it. This plan will require that we stay on schedule and work with some hard deadlines. There is only one assignment this week, but you need to watch 2 guided PowerPoint Presentations first. You cannot just start from here so if you have not completed last week’s assignments, the “Bridge Design Process Explanation” and the “Bridges Lab”, do that first. Before you start watching the presentations, print out the “Structural Bridge Challenge” and the “Bridges Checklist” from the Digital Bridge Project folder. You will also need pencil and paper. Watch the presentation “Structural Bridge Challenge Explanation”. Follow along with your sheet and take any notes. All this information will keep coming back up again and again throughout the challenge. Pay attention and try to understand the problem. Next, Watch the presentation “Creating Sketches”. It goes over the sketching and estimating processes and will have you creating a sketch with me. Follow along and make sure that you are getting exactly what I am doing with this. If you are confused, watch it again or reach out to me for further guidance on your specific question. Now for the assignment you are producing, you are creating 2 bridge designs that meet the criteria and constraints, 2 sketches with estimates. Take pictures and upload them or scan them into Office 365 and share them with me. To reiterate, this week you should complete:
We will be on our way designing our individual bridges. Make sure that you upload your sketches and let me know if you need help in any way. Coach Welcome to week 6 of digital learning!
First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. This is the second week of the Research, Design, and Build a Putt-Putt Boat, an adaptation of a steam generator invented in 1892. Go to the Putt-Putt Boat folder and do your research first. There are two short paragraphs you need to write about steam engines and how they compare and contrast to the putt-putt boat. Then design yours and build away. Good luck and let me know how you are doing by uploading and sharing your research and your video with me. You should finish your boat this week. You can run your boat in a bathtub or in a pool. Let me know how it goes. Coach Welcome to week 5 of digital learning!
First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. There are 3 assignments this week. First, we will continue the hand drafting project from last week. We will complete #’s 7, 8, 10, and 11. All files for this week’s assignments are in the Digital Learning Drafting Project Folder. It is tucked away inside the Drawing folder and inside the Drafting Project Folder. You will need to have your printed graph paper and it is probably best to print the assignments as well. Don’t forget about that guided PowerPoint. If you will open it in PP you can access the video, if not you will just be staring at a picture of me. Second, we will start our bridge research by accessing the “Bridges Lab” in the bridges folder. This has links to videos and to a PBS website that will help teach you some basics before we get started on our bridge design. Look at and read all the sites there. There is nothing to turn in for this but rather this is the start of your research for the bridge project. Garretts Bridges is a great resource so put some time into that one. Lastly, Check out the guided PowerPoint “Bridge Design Process Explanation”. It is in the digital bridge project folder inside the bridges folder. Watch the 30 minutes of video for this introduction to the design process. Next week we will start our bridge! To reiterate, this week you should complete:
TURNING IN YOUR WORK – You need to get your work to your student folder on Office 365 so I can see it. You could scan it in if you have access to that. There are apps for your phone like TurboScan that will scan your paper and make a PDF that you can upload. You could take pictures and upload the pictures to your student folder. If you are struggling with how to get your work turned in to the correct folder, please reach out to me for help. Good luck hand drafting and researching! Let me know if I can help in any way! Coach Welcome to week 5 of digital learning!
First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. The next two weeks we are going to Research, Design, and Build a Putt-Putt Boat, an adaptation of a steam generator invented in 1892. Go to the Putt-Putt Boat folder and do your research first. There are two short paragraphs you need to write about steam engines and how they compare and contrast to the putt-putt boat. Then design yours and build away. I know you Applications students have done this before, but this will be a new challenge since you are quarantined and may not have access to every supply you need. Try it again, Try to do it without epoxy. Good luck and let me know how you are doing by uploading and sharing your research a d your video with me. Remember, this is a two week assignment make some progress this week and I will check back with you over the weekend. Coach Welcome to week 4 of digital learning! First, make sure you sign in! Leave a comment on this week’s assignment with your name and your email address so I know you have been here and so that I can contact you directly. A ton of decisions have been made about the remainder of the school year since we last communicated. The county has sent a few pieces of communications out for you and your parents that will help you decide on your level of involvement. The questions are probably vast and are also probably individual in nature. I am available through email ([email protected]) and on my cell (678-575-5096) to answer those questions that pertain to your grade in my class individually. I have not put in or updated any grades since March 13th so the grade that is currently in the gradebook should be correct. The assignments from here on out may require an elevated effort from you and your parents. We have 2 major standards to try to cover digitally and these are difficult to cover with you all in class with me! My goal is to finish with the hand drafting project and then design and prototype our bridge. The bridge project is the most difficult and most rewarding project of the entire semester. I would ask that all students continue to work as this experience will help you during our second level class and on the EOPA in the future. On to the Assignment for this week!! This week we will continue our hand drafting that we began in person in March. We have done the orthographic drawing introduction so if you have forgotten this please go back and look at that. All files for this week’s assignments are in the Digital Learning Drafting Project Folder. It is tucked away inside the Drawing folder and inside the Drafting Project Folder. You will need to print 5 sheets of “Isometric Graph Paper 4”, 5 sheets of “Orthographic Graph Paper 4”, and 2 sheets of “Orthographic Graph Paper 8”. You can access the PDF’s of these papers in the folder. You may also want to print the Digital Learning Project #’s 1-11. The first Item to complete is the Isometric Drawing Intro. There is a guided PowerPoint in the folder so get 2 sheets of Isometric graph paper, a pencil, and a ruler and let’s do it together. Next you will start your digital learning project assignments. This week we will complete #’s 1, 3, 4, and 5. We attempted #’s 1 and 4 on Thursday March 12th in class and the substitute collected them. I want everyone to retry these as most/all were poorly done and this is a good exercise in hand drafting. Hand Drafting is a skill and skills are learned through repetition (practice). There is a guided PowerPoint that goes along with the project. So open this up, get your graph paper and your assignments, and follow along with the presentation. To reiterate this week you should complete:
